Description: This course is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the fundamentals of business. The course will cover different types of business, economics, financial planning, marketing strategies, and the importance of creating a business plan.
Objectives: At the end of this course, students will able to:
Business
· Create a business plan
· Understand various business terms
· Discuss and analyze business concepts and ideas
· Identify marketing strategies
· Analyze the impact of economics on starting and maintaining a business
· Understand the process of making choices
· Identify numerous business research methods
· Understand the foundations of business analysis and strategies
· Understand the essentials of collaboration and business communication
Technology
· Utilize various forms of technology to communicate and collaborate
· Develop a digital business plan
· Understand the impact of technology on business
· Understand the use of technology in the business environment
Learning Outcomes/Events:
· Review tutorials to understand business concepts and terminology
· Identify various types of corporations
· Identify key elements in starting a small business
· Research and create an e-Business
· Create a business plan for the e-Business and share it with students.
· Review a student’s business plan and make recommendations
· Discuss and evaluate another students e-Business and offer recommendations on marketing strategy, products, and demographics
· Collaborate and share ideas regarding e-business and business plan
· Build a website for your e-Business using Weebly. Upload presentation of your business idea and business plan to SOPHIA site
Requirements: Students are required to create an e-business, a business plan, and submit a final project. The final project consists of website for their business and PowerPoint presentation promoting the business. Students will also respond to questions posted on the discussion blogs.
Resources: In addition to this website, students will utilize the following resources and multimedia tools
Evaluation: A rubric is provided in the Activities and Collaboration tabs of the Fundamentals of Business site. Students will be evaluated on application of learning material, business plan, communication, and creativity. The rubric provides specific grading and evaluation criteria for each assignment.
Grading Scale:
A: 90% - 100%
B: 80% - 89%
C: 70% - 79%
F: 69% below
Course Schedule: This is an online learning environment with no define hours. However, students are expected to access the site at least three times per week and initial blog posts must be submitted by Tuesday of the current week.

Activities:
Create an e-Business following the instructions provided on the Activities tab. Submit business concept to Sophia by day 7 of week 3
Week 4
Business Plan
Activities:
Create a business plan for your e-Business. Follow business plan instructions provided on Activities tab. Complete business plan by day 7 of week 4
Week 5:
Collaborate
Activities:
1. Download WhatsApp
2. Download two students e-Business concept from Sophia. Review the business concepts and post your suggestions to the e-Business blog. Review the rubric for guidelines on how the blog will be graded. Initial Post by Tuesday of week 5.
3. Review two of your classmates business plans. Offer suggestions on how to improve the business plan and post your comments to the Business Plan blog. Initial post by Tuesday of Week of 5.

Final Project
Activities and Projects:
1. Edit your e-business concept and business plan using the suggestions provided by your classmates
2. Create a Website for your e-Business using Weebly.com. Consider your target audience, products, services, costs, and all aspects of the marketing mix
3. Create a PowerPoint presentation for your e-Business. Discuss your business plan, business concept, etc. The purpose of this presentation is to attract investors. Submit PowerPoint to Sophia as a tutorial by day 7 of week 6.
4. Provide your feedback in the class and site assessment of the course.
